Services Provided by Audiologist Ellen Mosher and Los Gatos Audiology and Hearing Aid Center

In keeping with our commitment to give patients the most comprehensive audiological care possible, Los Gatos Audiology and Hearing Aid Center offers a wide spectrum of the highest-quality services and products.

We place a high priority on educating our patients in a way that creates realistic expectations. It is important to remember that while hearing aids help to augment your hearing for the better, they cannot restore normal hearing. The degree of success and improvement your hearing aid will bring depends on your degree of hearing loss, your word recognition ability, and your motivation to wear a hearing aid.

All of our services begin with an important and informative consultation with audiologist Ellen Mosher. During the consultation, Ellen will evaluate your complete personal history regarding your listening environments, job duties, difficult listening situations, and your medical history. By evaluating the context of your current hearing difficulties, we may be able to diagnose the cause of your hearing impairment more accurately.

Comprehensive Audiometry Testing

After the review of your hearing background, Ellen will perform a complete diagnostic hearing test, also known as audiometry testing. Audiometry testing at the Los Gatos Audiology and Hearing Aid Center consists of multiple tests to ensure precise and accurate results.

  • Pure tone air test: requires you to wear a pair of headphones and indicate if and when you detect sounds that are played at certain combinations of frequencies and volumes.
  • Bone conduction testing: requires you to wear a headband that hangs a small rectangle behind each ear. You will be asked to indicate when you can detect the sounds.
  • Speech reception threshold testing: determines the lowest level at which you can recognize familiar two-syllable words.
  • Speech recognition testing
  • Noise discomfort testing

The data indicating which sounds you are able and unable to hear are compiled to create a personal hearing profile. Also known as an "audiogram," the profile will allow the audiologist to identify and diagnose the particular type of hearing loss you have with accuracy.

Selecting the Appropriate Hearing Aid

The audiogram records the type of hearing loss you have, and this, coupled with your individual life-style preferences, determine which technology and style of hearing aid will be optimal for your hearing loss and listening environments.

Fitting the Hearing Aid

When you receive your hearing aids, we will make sure that you understand how to use and maintain them properly. We will use your audiogram, your personal input, and a real-time analyzer system to make necessary adjustments to optimize the performance of the hearing aids. The real-time analyzer/probe microphone system provides a real-time display of the amplification that the hearing aid is producing in your ear canal. Since each person’s ear canal amplifies sound differently, the measurements taken by this system are the only objective means of determining if the amplification of the hearing aid is appropriate. This ensures that your fitting is scientifically correct, accurate, and appropriate.

Even after you have been fitted with the hearing aids and are satisfied with the results, Ellen Mosher and the staff at the Los Gatos Audiology and Hearing Aid Center are committed to providing follow-up care. We will check the performance and condition of your hearing aids several times each year to make sure you are receiving the full benefits of living with hearing aids.
