Disaster Preparedness for San Jose Residents with Special Needs
The members of the San Jose Office of Emergency Services take their responsibility to prepare the community for disasters very seriously. In addition to promoting disaster preparedness to all members of the community, they have made available special guidelines to help people with disabilities and special needs prepare for emergencies before they happen.
Putting Together a Survival Kit
Because residents affected by an emergency might not have access to medical facilities or drugstores for several days, the San Jose Office of Emergency Services recommends that in addition to basic supplies, people with special needs include medications and medical supplies in their survival kits. For example, San Jose residents who rely on hearing aids should keep extra hearing aid batteries on hand. Those with service animals should have food, water, and emergency pet supplies put away.
Preparedness for the Hearing Impaired
It is important to evaluate the personal needs of yourself and your family members when making an emergency plan. If you rely on special equipment, such as a hearing aid, motorized wheelchair, or breathing apparatus, to function optimally, you should be confident that you can rely on your equipment when you need it most. If you think you might need a hearing aid utilization review, hearing aid servicing, or repairs, these services are available at our San Jose area hearing aid center. Contact Los Gatos Audiology and Hearing Aid Center today to schedule an appointment.
