DO YOU...
Misunderstand conversations?

Ask people to repeat certain words?

Avoid social situations where you find it hard to hear?

Turn up the TV or radio so loud that it annoys others?

Have ringing, roaring, or buzzing in your ears?

Think people mumble?

Hear better in one ear than the other?

Find women's and childrens voices difficult to hear?
A "yes" answer to any of the above questions may mean you have a hearing problem.

If you answer "yes" to several questions, we strongly suggest you have your hearing checked to determine if you can benefit from wearing a hearing aid.

Getting the Whole Picture with Comprehensive Hearing Tests

Before any type of hearing test is completed at Los Gatos Audiology and Hearing Aid Center in the Bay Area, audiologist Ellen Mosher will do something very important: she will listen. In order to find the best solution for your hearing loss, your audiologist should not only analyze the results of your hearing test, but also understand your specific circumstances. Ellen can better recommend what hearing aids should work best for you by reviewing:
• Your medical history
• Daily activities
• The actual situations that affect your ability to hear clearly

Audiometry Testing for Accurate Results
After a thorough review of your hearing background, Ellen administers a complete diagnostic hearing test, also known as audiometry testing. This type of testing actually consists of multiple sets of tests involving speech and pure-tones. When complete, Ellen has accurate and scientific data from which she can develop a plan of treatment.

Some of the tests included in the diagnostic hearing test at Los Gatos Audiology and Hearing Aid Center include:

Pure tone air conduction testing

During this test your ability to hear various frequencies is determined. A series of tones at various volumes and frequencies are presented to one ear through headphones, and you indicate the sounds you hear. The test determines precisely what you can and cannot hear.

Bone Conduction Test

Because sound also travels through the skull via bone conduction, this test bypasses the middle ear and directly stimulates the inner ear. You wear a headband that places a small rectangular device behind your ear, and you indicate the sounds you hear. This test also determines precisely what you can and cannot hear.

Speech Reception Threshold Testing

This test determines the lowest level at which you can recognize at least 50 percent of a list of familiar two-syllable words.

Word Recognition Testing

You are asked to repeat 50 phonetically balanced one syllable words per ear at a comfortable volume.  This provides a percentage score of your ability to comprehend the clarity of speech.

Loudness Discomfort Level (LDL) Test

Unlike other hearing tests, this test determines how sensitive your ears are to speech and different frequencies at higher volumes.

The Audiogram

At the completion of your audiological testing at our Bay Area practice, your results will be compiled into a personal hearing profile called an audiogram. Combining the results in your audiogram with the information previously collected, Ellen Mosher can accurately identify and diagnose your particular type of hearing loss. If you can benefit from a hearing aid, she is then able to recommend a hearing aid appropriate for your unique hearing parameters and life-style.
